Before moving down from Scotland 20 years ago Bobby played with local jazz bands run by bandleaders George Penman, George Ogilvie and Kit Carey, and often backed singer Carole Kidd with pianist Sandy Taylor and the Kenny Stewart Trio. Bobby is still called upon to play many jazz festivals in Scotland with the Mike Daly Band and more recently with the newly formed Nova Scotia Jazz Band. Bobby presently holds the drum chair with the Bedford Mainline Big Band and regularly plays with Terry Lightfoots Jazzmen and the Terry Lightfoot Quartet featuring Melinda Lightfoot.
