Debbie Arthurs on Drums

Debbie was enthused to play the drums when a girl by the example of Karen Carpenter, but it wasn’t until her late teens when she found herself in the company of a group of enthusiastic jazz musicians and started to learn jazz drumming – a totally different way of playing. The group – almost all from the Chipping Camden area - finally named themselves the Charleston Chasers and the rest was nearly history, except that Debbie continued to play and improve and eventually took over as their leader. When not leading the Chasers she also takes two other groups on the road: Debbie Arthurs’ Hot Five and also Debbie Arthurs’ Sweet Rhythm. As well as being an accomplished singer she is also unusual in that she stands to play the drums.
